Hemp Law & Compliance

Hemp Law & Regulatory Compliance
Hemp-derived products in the United States are regulated under a combination of federal and state laws. The primary federal framework governing hemp is the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, commonly known as the 2018 Farm Bill.
This legislation removed hemp from the federal list of controlled substances and established clear legal definitions and compliance requirements for hemp cultivation, processing, and distribution.
The 2018 Farm Bill Explained
Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is defined as:
Cannabis plants and derivatives that contain no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight.
This definition applies regardless of the product format and is the foundational standard used to determine whether a hemp-derived product is federally lawful.

The Farm Bill also:
>Authorized regulated hemp production programs
>Allowed interstate commerce of compliant hemp products
>Required oversight by state and federal agencies
Federal and State Oversight
While hemp is federally legal under the Farm Bill, hemp-derived products must also comply with applicable state laws and regulations. These requirements may vary by jurisdiction and can include additional labeling, testing, or distribution standards.

Responsible hemp businesses monitor regulatory developments and ensure that products offered for sale align with both federal definitions and applicable state requirements.
